McVille celebrated it's Arbor Day, May 18, 2010. This is McVille's 13th year of being a Tree City USA. The City also earned it's 5th Growth Award for activities performed in 2009.

The ceremony began at the McVille City Main Street Park. Mayor Stanley welcomed the Mr. Gleason's 6th grade class from Dakota Prairie Elementary, the Shade Tree Committee and attendees. Gerri Makay, ND Community Forestry Specialist was on hand to present the City with it's official flag, pins and plaques.

The group took a walking tour to the east side of McVille. Two Cottonwood trees were observed and measured and estimated to be well over 100 years old. They are the largest species of this variety in town, both are located on Lee Street. The group moved to the bike path area where 10 Blue Spruce were planted. Ms. McKay demonstrated and the children participated in digging the proper size hole, root care and planting.

A new area at the McVille Dam has been designated by the McVille Park District, (consisting of Tami Stein, Wayne Ressler, Norris Olson, Jerry Bjornstad and George Kobel) and the Tree Committee for planting of trees in honor of or memory of certain McVille individuals. This year's honoree was Robert Bunde. Robert served on the Tree Commiittee for approx. 10 years. He was also very instrumental in trimming and removing dead and diseased trees for both the city and homeowners. Robert's sister, Sally was in attendance and Pastor Kinneberg honored Robert with a prayer of silence.

Cookies and refreshments was served at the Dam before the tour ended at the McVille School where the students received a perennial plant.

McVille was also honored at a Horticultural Tour held at the NDSU Research Center in Carrington June 10th. Members Silas Engebretson, Clifford Sateren, and Renae Arneson attended with Mayor Stanley and his wife, Sharon, and Mrs. Lorene Sateren.
